Garden City Swimmers Dominate WAC Teams in Quad

The Garden City High School girls Swim Team dominated their 2nd home meet of the year at the YMCA on Tuesday and are now 2-1 on the season with their early schedule.  The Lady Buffs with 384 points won the Quad by 31 points over 2nd place Great Bend, Dodge City 3rd and Liberal 4th.  Garden City won 2 of 3 relays and had one individual first place finish with Claire Schmidt in the 100 freestyle, the relay wins came in the 200 and 400 yard freestyle events.  In the 200 relay, it was Jacie Sullivan, Katelyn Greene, Lindsay Bradstreet and Samantha Norton finishing in a time 
of 1:53.88 over 5 seconds in front of runner-up Dodge City and Great Bend 3rd.  In the 400 freestyle relay, the Lady Buffs team of Katelyn Greene, Claire Schmidt, Alexa Shaffer and Samantha Norton produced a winning time of 4:11.05, again 5 seconds over the Dodge City team with Great Bend in third.  It was a one-two finish for Garden City in the 100 freestyle, with Claire Schmidt edging her teammate Katelyn Greene by 8 hundredths of a second, Schmidt finished with a time of 1:02.43 and Greene in 1:02.51. The Lady Buffs aquatic team had several top five finishes propelling them to their second win of the season at home, their lone 2nd place finish came at the tough Emporia meet last Thursday, next up for the Garden City
swimmers is the Salina South meet facing a number competitors with great times on the season.  Coach Casey Wise says he is extremely pleased with his young team, as they have produced some great times as well and look to be getting some individuals and relay teams qualified for state in May.
