(Garden City, KS.) (westernkansasnews.com) Garden City School teachers have endorsed a work agreement that will require faculty to dress in ‘business casual’ attire unless otherwise authorized by the school principal. School District Public Information Officer Roy Cessna says the vote was 441-76 in favor of the negotiated agreement for the 20111-2012 school year. The agreement is expected to be ratified by the School Board when they meet on June 4th. Cessna says negotiations on an agreement for the 2012-2013 school year will start soon after.
Cessna adds that this year’s teacher-district contract talks dragged out to late in 2012 because of opposition by some teachers to the new faculty dress code. Cessna says professor Charles E. Krider with the school of business from the University of Kansas, was hired by the Kansas Department of Labor to hear the points of view from both teachers and the Board of Education in April. Krider ultimately recommended that teachers be required to dress in ‘business casual’ attire with room for exceptions, such as field trips, where individual school principals can authorize teachers to don more casual wear.
