(Dodge City, KS) (westernkansasnews.com) Ford County Commissioners meet Wednesday and will cover a variety of topics including the recent closure of a local bridge by KDOT and the resignation of a member of the Ford Township Board.
County Administrator Edward Elam reports that KDOT closed the bridge on Valley last week after an inspector discovered a broken eye bar pin. In his report to the Commission, Elam states that the 102-year old bridge is considered ‘fracture critical,’ meaning if one part of the bridge fails the whole bridge could collapse. Elam says that simply repairing the bridge may not be an option as its main section has already outlasted its projected life span and its load rate of 9-tons cannot be increased. Commissioners will now probe which options are available for bridge replacement.
