Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May   31, 2012 at Word of Life Church in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor Marty   Younger officiating.

Interment: A   private family burial will take place at a later date in Terril, Iowa.

The family request memorials   given to the Marland nelson Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of   Garden City, Kansas.

Marland Curtis Nelson, 54 of   Garden City, Kansas died Monday, May 28, 2012 at St. Catherine Hospital in   Garden City, Kansas. He was born June 13, 1957 in Osage, Iowa the son of   Clifford and Evelyn (Braun) Nelson.

Marland grew up in Cresco,   Iowa and graduated from Crestwood High School in 1975. Upon graduation, he   worked on his family’s dairy farm. On June 3, 1979, he married Kay Beth Hill   in Early, Iowa. They moved to Garden City, Kansas in 1984. Marland worked for   Monfort for 18 years and then for Overhead Door for 9 years before health   problems prohibited him from working. Marland was a member of Word of Life   Church in Garden City, Kansas and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending   time with his grandchildren.

Marland is survived by his   wife Kay of the home; three sons Calvin & wife Patricia of Milwaukee,   Wi., Christopher & fiancé Randi of Tulsa, Ok., & Michael & wife   Cindy of Garden City, Ks.; a daughter Marlana Nelson of El Salvador; two   sisters Lori Praska of Cresco, Ia., & Myra Dierks of Saint Ansgar, Ia;   and five grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and an older brother   Duane Nelson.
