Doll Shares Anti-War Message at City Commission Meetings

John Doll

A statement in opposition to war in general and the war in Afghanistan in particular is uttered from the Dias by City Commissioner John Doll at the end of each Garden City Commission meeting.  Doll, a registered republican and candidate in the August 7th republican primary to represent the 123rd District in the Kansas State Legislature, says he has been an adamant opponent to war since his first cousin was killed in action in Vietnam nearly 4-decades ago.  Doll says he’s opposed virtually all of the ‘police actions’ (an undeclared war) taken by the United States since World War II.  Opposition to the war in Vietnam and war in general peaked in the early 1970s and waned when the U.S. government discontinued the draft in 1973.

Not surprisingly, Doll says he is a proud supporter of men and women in uniform and the nation’s veterans.  A lifelong teacher of civics, history, and government, Doll says it’s because he does care so much about the country and seeing young people, like his former students, succeed that he feels it’s important for politicians not to squander the nation’s resources and talent on unjustifiable military actions.
