Gravel recently applied to Railroad Avenue may have been a factor in a single vehicle wreck that sent a Holcomb teen to the hospital Wednesday night. Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue says that 17-year old Olivia Ortega was driving eastbound in a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire when she lost control of the vehicle on the loose gravel. The car left the road and entered a ditch, coming to a halt against the embankment. Ortega suffered injuries to her head and arm and was taken to St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
Workers have recently applied gravel to various roads on the outskirts of Garden City, including Railroad Avenue and South River Road. Drivers are recommended to slow down while travelling through gravel.
