The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a double fatal crash that occurred just four-miles outside of Trinidad.  Trooper Art Gumke reports that a Toyota Four-Runner being driven by 84-year old Texas resident Lamar Schweitzer went off the right side of Highway-25 and careened into a highway post at 8:35 Wednesday morning.  The driver over-corrected and the Four-Runner re-entered the highway, crossing all northbound lanes before leaving the road again and becoming airborne.  The vehicle landed in the median, rotated, and flipped twice before stopping on its wheels facing east.  Both Schweitzer and a passenger, his 73-year old wife, were wearing seatbelts, but died as a result of their injuries in the single vehicle wreck.

Investigators theorize that the driver may have fallen asleep prior to the accident.  Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
