A pair of Garden City men is in Finney County Jail facing first degree attempted murder charges.  Both Miguel Angel Herrera and Omar Quinonez are also facing charges of reckless discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle.  Herrera also faces a charge of aggravated use of a weapon by a convicted felon, as well as intentional body harm with a dangerous weapon.

The arrests stem from an altercation between two groups of people in two separate vehicles on June 30th.  Garden City Police Sergeant Michael Reagle reports that 23-year old Frankie Garcia was riding in the back of a vehicle with three other occupants on Highway-50 at 3:55 a.m. when a black pickup pulled alongside the car Garcia was in and its occupants began yelling and throwing beer cans.  Garcia was hit in the face with one of the beer cans and the drivers of two vehicles sped off in different directions.

The vehicles’ occupants encountered each other again a short while later on East Chestnut Street.  Both drivers stopped and two men jumped out of the pickup with a hand gun while one person got out of the vehicle that Garcia was in.  Several shots were fired toward the car Garcia was riding in and Garcia was struck by a bullet in the back.  Both drivers of the two vehicles fled the scene and Garcia was taken to St. Catherine Hospital.  He was treated for his injuries and released.

Both suspects remain behind bars with no bond.  Reagle says the investigation in the case continues and more arrests are possible.
