Garden City Commissioners held a public meeting on Tuesday in advance of the adoption of the city’s budget for the new fiscal year. Commissioners met in July and set the proposed mill levy for the upcoming fiscal year at 38.9 mills.
City Manager Matt Allen says the new budget reflects steadfast work by department managers to contain expenses and consider a 2-percent pay for performance review of employees, when warranted. Allen says the budget also maintains its focus on cultivating Garden City as a regional economic hub with a pro-business environment. Allen says he believes maintaining infrastructure and improving streets in the city are key components of an overall strategy for sustaining the city’s robust economy.
