Garden City Commissioners held a joint meeting with Finney County and Holcomb civic leaders on Monday and covered a variety of topics. Commissioner John Doll says Commissioners representing the various municipalities in attendance all agreed that they need to be on the same page and act with unity regarding future use of fireworks on and around Independence day. The discussion will be resumed in the future and no specific determination was made regarding future firework permissibility.
Doll says Commissioners also discussed the creation of a bicycle and walking path between Garden City and Holcomb. The Talley Trail currently spans from the Campus Drive area on the east side of town to just west of Taylor Avenue. Extending the Talley Trail to Holcomb may not be feasible due to right of way and access issues. Commissioners discussed the possibility of creating a trail from Garden City to Holcomb along the existing railroad tracks or the old Arkansas River channel. Ultimately Commissioners and staff agreed to probe the possibility further and will discuss it at a future date.
