National Night Out in Garden City is designed to take a night out and bite out of crime.  Garden City Police Officer Robert Scrivner says community members are encouraged to contact the Police Department and register to participate.  Scrivner says that by registering, participants can arrange to have a police officer or another emergency responder address their block party on National Night Out—August 7th.  The deadline to register is July 27th

National Night Out 2012 will mark the 29th annual occurrence of the event.  Sponsored by the National Association Town Watch, the event is designed to heighten crime and drug awareness in Garden City, generate support for local crime prevention programs, strengthen neighborhood-police partnerships, and to send a message to criminals that neighbors are banding together and fighting back against crime.   It’s free to participate and some beverages and snacks will be provided.  Participants can also request a spokesperson with a specific area of expertise address gatherings.  Police, Firefighters, and EMS as well as other emergency responders are collaborating on the event.
