Ford County Commissioners meet late Monday afternoon and will discuss reinstating a county-wide burn ban that could prohibit the use of personal, aerial fireworks in unincorporated portions of the county. Dodge City Fire Department officials will also be on hand and are weighing the possibility of reinstating a similar ban in the city limits. The Fire Chief and Fire Marshal have the authority to enact a burn ban if conditions warrant it.
Both the community fireworks exhibitions in Dodge City and Garden City are proceeding as planned with both events scheduled to start after sunset in each city. The Dodge Fireworks display will be launched from a vacant gully near Memorial Stadium, and the Garden City Display will be launched from immediately south of Finney County Fairgrounds. Both pyrotechnic displays are paid for primarily through corporate sponsorships and donations. Dodge City residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the display from Memorial Stadium and people in Garden City will enjoy good viewing areas at Finnup Park, the zoo, and the parking lot at Finney County Fairgrounds.
