The USD-457 Board of Education meets in Garden City Monday night beginning at 6 p.m. Board members will consider approval of the school district’s total proposed general fund budget for the fiscal year that began on July 1st at $49,602, 696. The proposed budget calls for a slight increase in the mill levy assessed on property owners who reside in the school district. Garden City Public Schools Finance Director Kathleen Whitley says the proposed budget calls for a slight increase in the mill levy assessed on property owners who reside in the school district. Whitley says the increase will result in a slight bump-up in what property owners pay: $7.94 per $100-thousand of assessed value on residential property. The levy was 49.19 mills last year and is proposed to rise to 49.88 mills in fiscal 2012-2013.
Board members are also slated to continue work on school district goals. There are 4 main goals that have been established in the school district and multiple sub-goals.
School board members will also be given their committee assignments for the year.
School District Superintendent Dr. Rick Atha is also scheduled to address the board regarding potential traffic issues at the new High School and the possibility of constructing a second entrance and exit to alleviate traffic during school and sporting events at the new stadium.
