There may be more advance work going on behind the scenes now in preparation for the new school year than ever before in the Garden City Public Schools USD-457 School District. Consider the sheer size of the student population: approximately 7600 students, and combine that with a major reconfiguration that included the construction of a massive new state of the art High School and stadium and one begins to comprehend the scale of the undertaking. The new approximate $100-million facility was constructed with bond funding with the blessing of the community and August 22nd will usher in a whole new era in Garden City public education.
Before the doors open for orientation on August 22nd, and the first full day of school can occur on August 23rd, students not already enrolled must get enrolled before the start of the school year. Spokesperson Roy Cessna says the High School will hold two days of enrollment: Wednesday, August 15th, from 7:30a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and Thursday, August 16th, between noon and 7:00 p.m. Students who have already mailed enrollment packets need not attend.
Cessna adds that a student information sheet and health information sheet will need to be completed during the enrollment process. A payment for the $36 enrollment fee and for the$40.00 iPad protection plan will also be collected during enrollment. Activity tickets are optional and cost $20.00.
Students can pick up schedules, IDs, parking passes and tour the building once enrollment is complete. Students who plan to park on site must present a valid driver’s license to obtain a parking pass. Restricted and farm permits count as a valid driver’s license.
