8 Shoplifting Prevention Seminar – The Garden City Downtown Vision, in cooperation with the Garden City Police Department, is offering a shoplifting prevention seminar at 8am in the Downtown Vision office. 8-12 Southwest Kansas Pro-Am – Is looking for families to host Southwest Kansas Pro-Am professionals the during the 33rd Annual Southwest Kansas Pro-Am. Host families will receive tickets to the dinners August 10 and 11 at the Golf Club at Southwind. 10 Ladies Luncheon & Fashion Show – The Southwest Kansas Pro-Am is having a Ladies Luncheon & Fashion Show at 11:30am at the Clarion Inn & Convention Center. All proceeds from the Southwest Kansas Pro-Am will benefit the Stephen Meyers Newborn Intensive Care Unit & Maternal Child Center at St. Catherine Hospital. 11 Softball Tournament – The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Finney and Kearney Counties’ Co-ed Guns, Hoses and, Stretchers Softball Tournament is at Peebles Complex. It is $30 per person to enter, 3 game guarantee. This tournament features the men and women of the local Police Dept, Sheriff’s Dept, Fire Dept, and EMS. 15 Mexican Fiesta Scholarship Pageant – Entries for the 2012 Fiesta Scholarship Pageant, sponsored by Fort Hays State University, are now being accepted by the Garden City Community Mexican Fiesta Committee. Deadline for applications is August 15 and the pageant takes place on Friday, September 7 and the Fiesta! Celebration is slated for Saturday, September 8 beginning with a parade at 10am. 15 Mercer Gallery – Opening date for the Ron Smith Exhibition, inaugural art show of the 2012-2013 season in Mercer Gallery, featuring wall sculptures inspired by Native American imagery and spirituality. 20 Kansas Concealed Carry class – For citizens seeking licensure to carry concealed firearms, 7:30am-6pm, this event is co-sponsored by GCCC Public Safety Department and Sand and Sage Rifle and Pistol Club. 25 5K Run/Walk – The 1st Annual Chachi Day 5K Run/Walk will be held at the Chachi’s Place in Deerfield, KS. 28 Sign up for Scouting – The Girls Scouts of Kansas Heartland and the Boy Scouts of America will be holding a Sign up for Scouting from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Methodist Church in Fellowship Hall. Boys from 1st -12th grade and girls from K-12th grade can all come to sign up to be a part of Scouting. There is a place for every child and volunteers are always welcome!

September 11 Finney County Job Fair – Come to the Finney County Job Fair from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at the Clarion Inn . This annual event strives to accommodate Finney County employers with an affordable and local venue in which they may promote job openings and recruit employees through face-to-face interactions. For more information on this event or if your company would like to take advantage of this great opportunity to reach hundreds of qualified job seekers, contact Sandra Garcia, Office Manager at the Finney County Economic Development Corporation at 620-271-0388. You must complete a registration letter and have your booth fee in by August 31. The Convention and Visitors Bureau will be holding a Business Building Expo in conjunction with the Finney County Job Fair. The Expo will be held as a way to showcase your media outlet. This is a good opportunity to make your business available and accessible to other businesses in the community.
September 29 Garden City Gauntlet – Garden City’s very own obstacle/adventure race, the course is roughly 5k and comes complete with obstacles to test your physical and mental strength. Obstacles will not be revealed until race day, but come prepared to climb, jump, crawl, and of course… Run! Waves begin at 2:00pm, event begins and ends in the southeast parking lot of the Finney County Expo Center. Fee’s are as follows, $70 until August 15, $80 until September 15 and $90 up until Race day. Awards presented to top finishers, and prizes given for creative race day attire!
