Garden City Police are investigating a strange case of attempted murder. Sergeant Michael Reagle reports that officers were dispatched to a Kello Street residence shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday in response to the report of a fight in progress. Officers were informed that one of the people inside the residence might be armed with a handgun. When officers arrived they made contact with two women. Officers determined that the two women had been involved in an argument when an adult male, 22-year old Kody Schwindt, interceded, forced one of the women onto a bed, placed a handgun next to her head and fired. Reagle says the bullet missed the victim and lodged into the wall of an adjacent room. A second shot was also fired and lodged into an exterior wall.
Schwindt was arrested at the scene and booked into Finney County Jail. He faces charges of attempted 2nd degree murder, aggravated battery and criminal discharge of a firearm.
