An 18-year old Topeka woman is lucky to be alive after a strange accident just outside of Rolla in Morton County on Tuesday. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that 26-year old Paula Perkins was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix on County Road J on the west side of Rollins, just 10-feet from city limits, when she encountered two people lying across the roadway after sunset at 9:40 p.m. The car struck one of the pedestrians, 18-year old Chloe Gallagher, before coming to a halt in a ditch on the south side of the street.
Gallagher was taken to the Elkhart Medical Center and was subsequently airlifted to the Wesley Medical Center with major injuries.
