PUBLIC AUDITIONS OPEN FOR FAMILY FAIRY TALE AT GCCC

Southwest Kansans who want to try their hand on the stage can audition for a role in Garden City Community College’s first theater production of the year, according to Drama Director Phil Hoke.

GCCC will be presenting a family-friendly comic fairy tale in October, entitled “The King Stag,” and public auditions are set for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 in the auditorium of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building.

“Everyone is welcome and experience isn’t necessary,” Hoke said. “People who have been on stage before should come out, and so should anyone who wants to try out for the first time.” Those auditioning, he added, should arrive prepared to perform a short monologue or other piece showing their ability to interpret literature.

Call backs will take place Aug. 28, and anyone with questions should contact the director at 620-276-0401.

The play, by Carlo Gozzi, takes place in the fictional kingdom of Serendippo, where a wife-seeking king ends up in competition with his own evil second minister for the hand of his beloved. Mayhem ensues as souls and spirits transfer from one body to another through magical spells, though all ends in a happily-ever-after conclusion.
