Kansas City Man Dies in Scott County Accident
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasenws.com)–A 51-year old Kansas City, Kansas man was fatality in a motorcycle-vechile accident Sunday afternoon. It happened just after five p.m. about 1.8 miles east of the US Highway 83/Kansas Highway 96 intersection, or about one mile east of Scott City on Highway 96. According to the report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, 63-year old Charles Brooks of Scott City was eastbound on K96, when he attempted to turn north onto Pittman Lane, and struck a 1995 Harley Davidson head on driven by Patrick Vega of Kansas City, Kansas. Patrick and passenger, 49-year old Shelly Vega, also of Kansas City, Kansas, were taken to Scott County Hospital, where Patrick was pronounced dead. Shelly was later flown by Eagle Med to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. Neither Patrick, nor Shelly were wearing helmets. Brooks was uninjured in the accident, and it was not reported in the accident report from the Kansas Highway Patrol whether or not he was wearing a seatbelt.
