The journalism department at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School is sponsoring a Publications Seminar Wednesday, Oct. 17, for high school students and their advisers

The seminar will include round-table discussions, lead writing and cutlines, photography, Photoshop and new media.

One of the speakers will be Cayla Thomlinson, former yearbook editor at Rolla High School, former award-winning newspaper editor with the Crusader at SCCC/ATS and editor of the nationally recognized Kanza yearbook at Pittsburg State University.

Photography students will be able to visit with videographer Dawn Shouse of Amarillo, who now lives in Liberal, photographer Jordan Long of Optima, Okla.; and Czech Republic Liberal Arts school graduate and photographer Jakub Stepanovic.

Crusader editors will lead additional table discussions. Jose Medrano of Liberal and Tonya Loewen of Meade will lead sessions on developing stories and using the maestro system for design. Those interested in advertising can chat with Sandy Alfaro of Liberal and Celestina Padilla of Tyrone, Okla., and those wanting online input can visit with Matthew Adkins of Liberal and Cinthia Serna of Kismet.

Anita Reed, SCCC/ATS Crusader adviser, will share helpful hands-on tips for students and skills advisers need to survive the pressures of projects and deadlines. Last year, College Media Advisers recognized Reed as the national Distinguished Adviser for two-year newspapers
