TradeWind Energy of Lenexa has reached a purchase agreement with Alabama Power Company to supply power from its Buffalo Dunes Wind Project southwest of Garden City to Alabama. The project is expected to be built across about 42,000 acres in Finney, Grant and Haskell counties.

TradeWind says in a press release that the Alabama Public Service Commission approved the agreement last month.

Alabama Power Company, is a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Southern Company. The Buffalo Dunes Wind Project will deliver clean, low cost electricity to communities in Alabama and will produce enough wind generated electricity to power approximately 90,000 homes.

TradeWind officials have been working to secure long-term leases for land largely in Grant County and Haskell County for the turbines and that commercial operation is expected by December 2013.
