One week after our National and State leaders have been determined for the next four years, Economist expert, Scott Mackey, says its time that Kansas re-examine their communication tax structure.  Since 2003 Mackey has been tracking the country’s excessive wireless tax burdens highlighted in his ongoing 9 year- study.  Wireless consumers are now paying taxes, fees, and surcharges nearly two and a half times higher than the average 7.33 percent rate on goods and services.  In some areas, it has tripled.

The Wireless Tax Fairness Act would place a freeze on any new state and local wireless taxes and fees for five years.  The Congressional Budget Offices has rated it $0 cost to the state and local government.

This bipartisan bill, which has unanimously been passed by the House, looks for the companion bill by the Senate to be passed by year end.
