Garden City, KS (www.westernkanasnews.com) – It was somewhat of a typical slow start to each of the 12 games the Garden City Lady Buffs Basketball team has played on the 2012-2013 season. However, after 10 straight wins, the Lady buffs lost only their 2nd game on the year 48-44 to the Bishop Miege Lady Stags, last night in the opening round of the 37th Annual Newton High School Mid-Season Basketball Tournament. The Lady Buffs had not played since January 15th at Ulysses in a blow-out win, but they did not play well then and it carried over to the game with Bishop Miege. Garden City would get only one player in double figures, as sophomore Jayme Bernbeck dropped in 13 points, junior Taryn Tempel chipped in 9 and junior point guard Jacksennie Tornero added 7. The Lady Stags were led in scoring by their senior go to player Lexie Hughes with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Hughes a very good 3 point shooter hit four trey’s and went 5 of 6 from the free throw line, she has already committed to play at Southwest Missouri State next year. Lady Buff Head Coach David Upton talks about his team lacking some sharpness rhythm in their return to the hardwoods after a nine day layoff.
