Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – It was another dismal outing for the defense and offense for the Garden City Buffalo Baseball team on Tuesday at Clint Lightner Field, as the Buffaloes fell to the Wichita Heights Falcons in run rule games, 10-0 in game one and 13-3 in the nightcap. Senior Edgar Montoya gave up four hits and four runs in the top of the first to the Falcons and Garden City started out in a hole for game one and never recovered. Montoya found a little rhythm in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings shutting down the Falcons with only a couple of hits and no runs, but it was the explosive 5th inning that blew-up the senior pitchers efforts, as Wichita Heights erupted for six runs on 5 hits taking a 10-0 lead. It had been a struggle the entire first game for Garden City as their batters went down in order with the exception of the 4th when five batters came to the plate. The Buffaloes went down in order in the bottom of the 5th and lost the run rule game to the Falcons 10-0 dropping the Buffs to 0-3 on the season. Falcon junior Blake Day had an outstanding performance over the two games going 6 for 7 with six RBI’s and came close to hitting for the cycle, as had 4 singles, a double and a home run for an opening series batting average of .857.

The nightcap was much the same for the Falcons jumping out to a 6-0 lead over the first inning and a half, but the Buffaloes would see some offense in the bottom of the 2nd, as junior Emillo Parr walked to lead off, Andy Saldivar was hit by the pitch, Marco Zapata singled bringing home Parr, junior Thomas Salario doubled to collect an RBI, after Saldivar scored on a past ball and Zapata came home to cut the Falcon lead to 6-3. From that point the bats went silent for Garden City and the big senior lefty Grant Watkins would control the rest of the game to get his first win on the season and Falcons wrapped out 7 more hits and scored 7 runs to win the nightcap game 13-3 in 5 innings starting their season 2-0. The Buffaloes are 0-4 on the year and will host TMP-Hays next Tuesday April 2nd at Clint Lightner Field in a double header scheduled to start at 4:00 pm.
