Celia von Leonrod, age 92, died August 22, 2013, at the Lane County Long Term Care Unit in Dighton. She was born October 26, 1920, in Augusta, the daughter of James Russell & Mary Winona (Hess) Demo. Celia married George von Leonrod, Jr., M.D. on March 3, 1947, in Wichita. He died December 26, 1998. Celia started school in Eldorado. In 1927, her family moved to Scott County where she attended grade school at Grigston and graduated from Scott City High School in 1938. Prior to her marriage, Celia worked for several businesses, including Inland Utilities and First National Bank of Scott City and Southern Supply in Wichita. After her marriage, Celia and her husband moved to Dighton where he practiced medicine and their family was raised. She was an excellent seamstress and also enjoyed knitting and embroidery. Celia was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include one son, Mark & Sheila von Leonrod of Dighton; two daughters, LuAnn & Bryant Schultz of Dighton, Margaret & Lennie Herman of Garden City; 17 grandchildren and 34 greatgrandchildren. 

Celia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, George A. von Leonrod; and two brothers, Hobert Russell Demo and Willard Joe Demo.

Visitation: Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Boomhower Funeral Home of Dighton.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013 at First Christian Church in Dighton with James Yager officiating. Interment will be at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Lane County Healthcare Foundation in care of Boomhower Funeral Home of Dighton.
