Former Buff inks with Iowa State

Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Some people thrive when dealing with adversity; others falter. For former Buffs defensive star Gabe Luna, a tough childhood molded him into a Division-I product.

Luna, who played for former Garden City High School coach Mike Smith and current head man Brian Hill was back in his old stomping grounds on Wednesday afternoon-this time to sign a letter-of-intent to play football at Iowa State.

Luna’s pedigree is strong when it comes to football. His dad played at Garden City Community College and went on to the University of Houston. His son’s path was a little different.

Luna decided to move away to El Dorado and sign with Butler out of high school. Under Troy Morrell’s tutelage, the Garden City product played in a National Championship Game his freshman year and was part of the Grizzlies ninth consecutive Jayhawk Conference title team in 2013.
