Longhorns roll to twin victories over Roadrunners

Holcomb’s girls and boys basketball teams both routed Anthony-Harper-Chaparral Tuesday night, easily advancing to the sub-state semi-finals. The Lady Longhorns jumped on the Roadrunners early, bolting to a 21-5 first quarter lead, scoring 12 points off Roadrunner turnovers. Holcomb led by 32 at halftime and coasted to the 67-31 victory, scoring 25 points off Chaparral’s 26 turnovers. Haley Heydman led the way with 24 points, followed by Taylor Deniston with 17 and Jordan Jarnigan with 13 points. The Lady Longhorns improve to 19-2 and will face the Garden Plain Owls on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Cimarron.  Garden Plain rolled over Lakin 60-34.

The Longhorn boys followed up with a 78-50 romp over the Roadrunners. Trey Sleep returned to the line-up with a vengeance, scoring 24 points to lead all scorers. Heath Tucker had 18 points and Blake Richmeier added 10 off the bench. None of the Chaparral Roadrunners had more than 9 points. Holcomb is now 18-3 on the season. The Longhorns have a short turnaround, with a Thursday game against the Kingman Eagles on tap next in Cimarron. Kingman edged Southwestern Heights 56-54 to advance to the semi-finals. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, with the pregame show beginning at 7:15 on KBUF 1030-AM.
