Grizzlies roar; take two from Buster softball

Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-To say Buster Coach Becky Gundy was frustrated after dropping two more to No. 7 Butler on Monday afternoon, would be a big-time understatement.

“You can tell the ones that have checked out,” Gundy said. “I need to find nine or 10 girls that want to play in regionals.”

Harsh words, but she just watched her team get no-hit in a 6-0 loss in game one and outslugged in a 22-8 defeat in the finale.

“We’ll do what we have to do moving forward,” Gundy added.

The Grizzlies used two hurlers in the first game to shutdown the Buster attack. Syndee Eck struck out four in six brilliant innings. Then Jayde Hansen finished it off with an inning of scoreless relief.

The two pitchers got help from the Butler (29-7, 13-1) offense, who hit two long balls in the opener: One by Monica Islava and the other by Jillian Navarette.

In game two-it was the Grizzlies 11-run seventh inning that finished off Gundy’s squad.

Next up: Garden City at Dodge City-Tuesday, April 22-3 pm and 5 pm
