0

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)The school board at USD 457 in Garden City made a two percent budget cut in response to an expected 625-thousand dollar budget shortfall for next year.  It is important to note that the cut reduces the rate of spending from current levels and focuses on programs not related directly with the classroom.

The board also approved second grade readiness on a 4-3 vote.  This is where students would have to meet certain requirements before moving on.  Several board members expressed concern that the parents should have a bigger voice on whether their child is held back or moved to the next grade
