Tuning up fundamentals; Lady Beavers gearing up with team camp

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–With summer moving along quickly, the Scott City Lady Beaver Volleyball team has been involved in the summer weight program, and training for the upcoming season. This past week, the Lady Beavers took part in a team camp, with two of those days taught by Ft. Hays State University Coach Kurt Kohler and Lady Tiger Assistant Crystal Foss. Thursday and Friday’s camp were run by head coach Megan Gentry, along with assistants Ranae Baker and Ashley Geyer.

According to Coach Megan Gentry, up to 32 incoming SCHS athletes participated in the camps, where fundamentals were the prime emphasis.

For juniors Madison Braun and Madison Orr, they feel that the team has improved over the summer.

Braun and Orr will be two of four of the top upperclassmen to return from last season. This year’s team looks to have just two seniors in Brooke Dillinger and Kristi Faurot, to go along with a new coaching staff.

The first day of practices are scheduled for Monday, August 18, with the first competition to begin Tuesday, September 2. One new match is added to the schedule this year. Scott City will travel to LaCrosse on Thursday, September 25 in a dual against the Leopards. This will be an opponent that not only was a state-qualifying team in 2013, but it will also feature a pair of head coaches who are sisters in Megan Gentry from Scott City and Mindi Dreiling in LaCrosse.
