Sandra (Sandi) Lee Seger

Sandra (Sandi) Lee Seger, age 55, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, October 26, 2014 in her home near Big Bow, Kansas.  She was born April 12, 1959 in San Pedro, California, the daughter of Bert and Helen Smith.

Sandi attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho for two years and then transferred to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  There, she met her future husband, Robert Edward Seger.  They were married on February 6, 1981.  Soon after, they moved to Parsons, Kansas and then to Plains, Kansas, where they farmed until 1987.  Sandi and Robert then accepted a new farming opportunity near Big Bow, Kansas and established a permanent residence.

Sandi’s life was dedicated to serving others.  Sandi served her family as a beloved stay-at-home mother to six children.  She served her community as a member of the USD 452 school board for eight years and school board president for two terms.  She served as the PTA president at the Big Bow Grade School, where she coordinated the yearly carnival and donated quilts.  She was an active participant in her church, serving in callings in primary, young women’s, and relief society.  She volunteered in her children’s school classrooms and helped out in any way she could.

Sandi was an avid gardener, growing many varieties of vegetables and maintaining a beautiful yard and flower garden.  She loved to travel.  She was skilled at sewing, quilting, and embroidery.  She enjoyed woodworking.  She was a vital asset in and around the farm, from driving combine to cooking harvest meals.  Sandi loved to cook and was well-known for her cook-outs and get-togethers.    

Sandi is survived by her husband, Robert E. Seger, and her youngest daughter, Calyssa Seger, of the home; two additional daughters, Ciara Seger of San Francisco, California and Chelsea Hennigh and husband Dane of Ulysses, Kansas; her three sons, Bret Seger and wife Olivia of Big Bow, Kansas, Rusty Seger and wife Brittney also of Big Bow, Kansas, and Richard Seger of Provo, Utah; her sister, Gail Bair of Rancho Cordova, California; her brothers, Kenneth, David, and Larry Smith of California; and five grandchildren.

Sandi is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Smith, and her father, Bert Smith.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ulysses, Kansas.  Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas.  Friends may call on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses; and Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Humanitarian Aid Fund or the ALS Loan Closet in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W.
