Dodge City Economy: Housing Part of Problem and Solution

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The President of Policom William Fruth made a recent presentation on why Dodge City ranked 21st out of 536 micropolitan communities nationwide in its economic strength survey.  Joann Knight, Executive Director of the Ford County/Dodge City Economic Development Corporation realizes that keeping up with infrastructure is vital to their success.

While a significant amount of housing projects are underway there is also a tipping point.

Unemployment is low across Southwest Kansas.  The highest unemployment is in Ford County at 2.9%.

Knight explains with a small amount of people out of work some employers are hiring applicants who are under qualified for certain jobs.

Dodge City has built 500 housing units over the last three years with another 330 in development.
