Doris May Schmidt was born to Clarence and Lafina (Schmidt) on May 8, 1935 at her parent’s home near Ingalls. She peacefully passed away on January 14, 2015 at Bethel Home in Montezuma reaching the age of 79 years. 

Her childhood years were spent on the family farm near Copeland where she enjoyed many good times outdoors. Doris attended Copeland public school, completing eight grades of elementary education. 

On November 3, 1948, she became a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, being baptized by Minister Albert Unruh. She remained faithful to her vows till death. 

Doris found fulfillment in homemaking, doing house work in area communities, together with sewing, embroidery, and gardening. After her mother’s passing, she helped with the care of her father and uncle Jesse. 

Those surviving are brothers, Glen Schmidt and wife Marjorie of Moundridge, Harold Schmidt and wife Fern of Brooksville, Mississippi, and Howard Schmidt and wife Shirley of Montezuma; one sister, Pauline Unruh and husband Charles of Ulysses; together with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2915 at 10:30 A.M. at the Montezuma Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 18, 2015 from noon to 3:00 P.M. at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of the funeral home.
