Victor “Vic” Ackerman

Victor “Vic” Ackerman, 74, died Monday, March 16, 2015 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. 

He was born January 16, 1941 at Spearville, the son of Anthony and Magdalen (Schawe) Ackerman. A lifetime area resident, he received his Bachelors Degree from St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City and served in the Army National Guard. 

He owned and operated Vic’s Carol Lee Donut Shop in Dodge City from 1976 to 1980 as well as working for the Right Coop. He worked as an accountant for Centel in Dodge City, retiring after 35 years of service. He was also the bookkeeper at Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe for several years. 

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, was active with the St. Mary of Plains College Alumni and Foster Parent Program. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council 2955, Dodge City where he was Past Grand Knight and held numerous other positions as well as past Chief Counselor for the Squires. 

On September 28, 1968 he married Linda Waldron at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City. 

Survivors include his wife, Linda, Dodge City; 6 children, Dr. Karen Ackerman, Dodge City, Cheryl Ackerman, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Danny Ackerman and wife Megan, Topeka, Paul Ackerman and wife Jean, Lawrence, Kansas, Angela Collins and husband Kylan, Park City, Kansas and Mary Henderson and husband Ben, Springfield, Missouri; 2 brothers, Denis Ackerman and wife Judy, Arvada, Colorado and Steve Ackerman and wife Kerry, Spearville; 2 sisters, Vera Dick and husband Bob, Abilene, Kansas and Doris Waldron and husband David, Ulysses; 10 grandchildren, Alex and Emma Ackerman, Mason and Annabella Ackerman, Abigail, Hannah, Layton and Kason Collins and Haley and Molly Henderson. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Ackerman and a sister, Sr. Karen Ackerman. 

Vigil Service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:30 pm Friday, March 20, 2015 both at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Saturday at the church with Fr. Terrance Klein presiding. Viewing will be from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Friday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
