Demons Dig In For A Chance to Set Winner Take All Hatchet Game

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) A win tonight is very important for the Dodge City High School football team.  Not for playoff implications, that added emphasis will start next week when district play begins against Wichita Northwest.  Tonight’s game with Hays (2-3, 1-2) ties in more with another goal Dodge City (3-2, 2-0) has on their radar.

With a win tonight Dodge City will be a first place tied with undefeated Garden City setting up a showdown three weeks from now for the conference crown in the annual Hatchet game.  Dodge is picking up the tempo defensively only allowing seven points over their last two games.  Defensive end Noah Williams believes the guys are meshing into to a tough force.

Hays quarterback Alex Delton is gone to K-State and with him a very pass oriented offense.  Now the philosophy of Indian first year coach Randall Rath is to run and bring the game right to the defense.  Red Demon coach Dave Foster knows this is the type of attack that gave his team trouble earlier this year.

Hays defense has also excelled knocking off previously undefeated Wichita South last week for their second shutout of the year.  The Indians have won the past three games in the series and scored 64 points against Dodge last year in a 64-50 win, the most points a Dave Foster team has given up in his six years with the Red Demons.

Caden Walters threw for a school record 453 yards in last year’s loss, while the Red Demons were held to -10 on the ground.

Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30, kickoff at 7 from Memorial Stadium.
