Gerald Schlereth, 61, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. 

He was born September 18, 1954 at Dodge City, the son of Henry M. and LaVeta Hattie (Keith) Schlereth, Sr. He was a graduate of Dodge City High School and a lifetime Hodgeman and Ford County resident. He was a farmer and stockman and in his younger years was a welder for Winnie’s Welding in Dodge City. 

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City and a board member of the Pawnee Watershed. He enjoyed and restored old cars. 

On April 28, 1990 he married Deanna Walter at the First United Methodist Church in Dodge City. She survives. 

Other survivors include: his daughter, Kim Eckels and husband Will, Wichita; 2 step-sons, Shannon Bowie and wife Kim, Hanston and Eric Dexter and wife Leslie, Hays; a step-daughter, Wendy Hoss and husband Hal, Ness City; a sister, Gayle Hall and husband Steve, Dodge City; 13 grandchildren, Zachary Hoss, Zane Swafford, Jacob Hoss, Josh Abrams, Emily Eckels, Hannah Abrams, Grace Eckels, Jaylee Hoss, Ean Dexter, Courtney Bowie, Bowen Hoss, Brock Hoss and Braylee Bowie; 2 nieces, Liz Treder and husband Andy and Allison Hall; and 2 great nieces, Tatum Treder and Ainsley Treder. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Kristen Eckels. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City with Fr. Wesley Schawe and Pastor Mark Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City. Visitation will be noon to 8:00 pm Friday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel with the family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
