Vera Lou Adam, 91 died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born May 24, 1924 in Lydia, Kansas the daughter of George Albert & Alma Imogene (Stites) Bishop.
Vera grew up as a child in Tribune, Kansas. She moved with her family to Canon City, Colorado in the early 1930’s. She later moved with her family to Garden City in 1938. Vera then moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 1959 and in 1963 returned to Garden City. She has lived in Garden City since. On November 16, 1969 she married Howard Adam in Garden City. Vera worked as a sales clerk for various businesses in Garden City. She enjoyed camping, fishing, crafts, baking, making egg noodles, playing cards and marbles, and family gatherings. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Garden City, the Finney County Senior Center, RSVP, Royal Neighbors, the Rebekah Lodge, and Buffalo Campers.
Survivors include three sons Forrest W. Burgett of Overland Park, Kansas, Robert C. Burgett of Midwest City, Oklahoma, and Rodney J. Burgett of Chantilly, Virginia; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. Vera is preceded in death by her husband Howard who died on August 7, 2014. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Jeanne Trulove; 2 brothers James Ivor Bishop and Glenn Ora Bishop; 2 sisters Laura Ellen O’Dette and Irma Imogene Bishop; and a grandson Jesse Burgett.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Fr. Forrest Burgett officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to service time on Monday at Garnand Funeral Home. The family requests memorials given to Homestead Assisted Living in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
