Carlos Mendoza “Fish” Bribiesca

Carlos Mendoza “Fish” Bribiesca, 54 died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at his home in Garden City. He was born September 9, 1961 in Garden City, Kansas the son of Vincente Carmen Bribiesca, Sr. and Teresa (Mendoza) Bribiesca.
Carlos has been a lifetime resident of Garden City. He attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1979. He then attended Garden City Community College. Carlos began working for the City of Garden City. After 37 years with the City of Garden City, Carlos recently retired as a supervisor with the street department. He enjoyed all sports, especially playing softball and basketball. He also enjoyed the University of Kansas athletics, the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs, and collecting Michael Jordan memorabilia.
On August 29, 1987, he married Blanca B. Cumplido in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter Ada Christina Bribiesca of Garden City; seven brothers Jesse Bribiesca of Hutchinson, Kansas, Louie Bribiesca of Anaheim, California, Albert Bribiesca of South Gates, California, Eduardo Bribiesca of Pamona, California, Vincente Bribiesca, Jr. of Garden City, Kansas, Abel Bribiesca of Garden City, Kansas, and Ernesto Bribiesca of Garden City, Kansas; two sisters Alvina Bribiesca of Anaheim, California and Marta Flores of Garden City, Kansas; a brother-in-law Mario Cumplido of Dumas, Texas; and many nieces and nephews including Eric Bribiesca, Matthew Bribiesca, and Jessica Lopez. Carlos is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Esteben Bribiesca, Ramon Bribiesca, and Lorenzo Bribiesca.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 1 also at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Seiwert as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
