Leon Allen Woods, 61, died January 3, 2016 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born on February 24, 1954 in Julesburg, Colorado, the son of Laurel A. and Elsie Katherine (Land) Woods.

Leon moved with his family from Colorado to Sublette in February of 1968. He graduated from Sublette High School. Leon went on to further his education at Seward County Community College. He later attended the technical school at Seward County to study automotive engines so he could build his engines for the stock car and modified cars he liked to race. On June 5, 1976, he married Glenda Byington in DeSoto, Missouri. She survives. Leon worked for Cox Farms for 45 years. He enjoyed golfing in his later years.

He was a member of the Sublette Methodist Church and the Cimarron Valley Golf Association.

Leon is survived by his wife Glenda Woods of Sublette; two children, Melisa Nugent and husband John of Wichita and Scott Woods and fiancé Amy Knoll of Sublette; two grandchildren, Emma and Carter Nugent of Wichita; four brothers, Walter Mosttler and wife Nan, John Mosttler, Kenny Mosttler and wife Brenda all of Sublette and Bob Woods of Knobnoster, Missouri; five sisters, Wanda Piland and husband Bob of Missouri, Janet Olsen of Wichita, Kay Stamper and husband Chris of Ohio, Luella Jones and husband Pete of Missouri and May Piepick of Niles, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin and Richard Woods; and two sisters, Sue Hoeffner and Twila Mosttler.

Funeral service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Sublette on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Eddie Pennington presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Friday, January 8, 2016 from noon to 8:00 PM. There will be no burial as cremation will follow the service. Memorials are suggested to Sublette United Methodist Church or Cimarron Valley Golf Association in care of the funeral home.
