Marlene Ullom, 80, died June 29, 2016 at Founder’s Crest in Wichita. She was born on October 3, 1935 at Montezuma, the daughter of Jacob (Jake) and Velda (Menzie) Blackwelder.

Marlene was raised in Montezuma, graduating from Montezuma High School in 1953. She went on to attend Southwestern College in Winfield for a year. On July 18, 1954, she married Ira (Buck) Ullom at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. He survives. They made their home in Montezuma and Marlene worked for Cimarron Insurance. In 1962, they moved to California, returning to Montezuma in 1974. Marlene was a farmwife and bookkeeper. She enjoyed playing bridge and was very active in the community. Both she and Buck enjoyed attending sporting events at the school. After their retirement, they were “snowbirds” and wintered in Kingsland, Texas. 

She was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, U.M.W, and Bluelight EHU all of Montezuma. Marlene was very involved in many aspects of the Methodist Church, always willing to help where needed.

In addition to her husband, Buck, Marlene is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Ullom of Wichita; a sister, Louise Thomas and husband Vic of Montezuma; step-sister, Madge Saville of Salina; two grandchildren, Jonas Ullom of Oakley and Ginger Bingham of Salina; and six great grandchildren, Conner, DraeVynn, and Jiran Ullom and Ethan, Kiley, and Willow Bingham. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ron Ullom; and a brother, Robert Blackwelder. 

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Javier Martinez, Rev. Jerry Odle, and Pastor Rick Thomas presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma on Monday, July 4, 2016 from noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Montezuma United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation in care of the funeral home.
