John J Koehn
John J Koehn, 90, died July 20, 2016 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on February 27, 1926 in Copeland, the son of Jake T. and Lizzie (Koehn) Koehn.
John attended the Liberty Knoll school in Plains. He married Verda Mae Smith on August 4, 1949 in Copeland. She preceded him in death. John worked at a variety of jobs throughout his life. His last job was for Weaver Popcorn for 13 1/2 years, retiring in 1990. Even though he was officially retired, John kept working at other small jobs until he was 83.
He is survived by five children, Carl Koehn and wife Norma of Ulysses, Marcus Koehn and wife Cindy of Ulysses, Yvonne Koehn and husband Sidney of Livingston, California, LaRee Prater and husband Elton of Lubbock, Texas, and Sara Koehn and husband Wesley of Stover, Missouri. In addition to his wife, John is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elma and Velma Koehn; and three brothers, Curtis, Vernon, and Raymond Koehn.
Funeral service will be held at the Grant Mennonite Church, Ulysses on Sunday July 24, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Grant Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday July 23, 2016 at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and then at Grant Mennonite Church from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
