Vesta Palmira “Polly” Schadegg

Vesta Palmira “Polly” Schadegg, 93, died Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City. 

She was born May 7, 1923 in rural Gray County, the daughter of Harry and Leota (Tinsley) Gechter. She was a lifetime area resident and a 1941 graduate of Cimarron High School. As a young woman she was a Home Front Worker during WWII from 1941 to 1945 at the Airbase west of Dodge City. From 1945 to 1950 she worked as a clerk at the First National Bank in Cimarron and later worked for IGA, the Dart In, Gray County EMS and as a bookkeeper at the lumber yard all in Cimarron. She worked for the Cimarron Insurance Company until she was 71 and the Blue Jay Restaurant in Cimarron, retiring at the age of 86. Family and helping others was very important to her. 

She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Cimarron and 55 year member of Eagles Lodge 3124 in Garden City. 

On December 29, 1950 she married Wilfred “Bill” Schadegg at Garden City. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1977. 

Survivors include: her son, Gary Schadegg and wife Sandy, Cimarron; 2 daughters, Linda Tyler and husband Don, Cimarron and Louise Aubuchon and husband Daryl, Trinidad, Colorado; a step-son, Terry Schadegg and wife Stella, Wichita; step-daughter-in-law, Dorothy Schadegg, Wichita5 grandchildren, Mathew Schadegg and wife Stacy, Michael Schadegg, Maxwell Schadegg and wife Christiana, Kyra (Aubuchon) Dry and husband Ryan and Kolton Aubuchon; 5 step-grandchildren, Tina Porter and husband Jim, Suzanne Soileau and husband John, Todd Schadegg, Stacy Schadegg and Stephanie Schadegg; 5 great grandchildren, Gracie Schadegg, Madilyn Schadegg, Jaxon Schadegg, Hazel Schadegg and Cooper Schadegg; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, infant son, John in 1951, 2 brothers, David and Jim Gechter, 3 sisters, Shirley Ott, Mary Urwin and Florence Perkins Smith and step-son, Don Schadegg. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City with Rev. Richard Deimund officiating. Burial will follow in Cimarron Cemetery, Cimarron. Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
