Maxine Steimel, 83, died Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, Johnson. 

She was born August 11, 1933 at Garden City, the daughter of George and Agnes (Meng) Hewes. She was a lifetime area resident, a graduate of Ingalls High School and attended St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City on a Music Scholarship. She was Homecoming Queen in both high school and college. She was a homemaker as well as working at Cimarron Insurance, the Ingalls Museum, Western Power and as a Para at Ingalls High School. 

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Ingalls and was active in numerous Booster Clubs and her children’s activities. 

On December 29, 1956, she married Louis Steimel at Ingalls. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1990. 

Survivors include: her children, Kim and wife Mary, Spearville, Chris and wife Linda, Manter, Kansas, Brent and wife Rae, Oberlin, Ann Kimble and husband Andrew, Mullinville, Jerry, Ingalls and Lynn Steimel and Donald Stenzel, Dodge City; a sister, Jeanette Kolbeck, Garden City; 12 grandchildren, Jeremy Steimel, Weston Steimel and wife Sophie, Kylee Sperber and husband Aaron, Josh Kimble and wife Leslie, Hannah Stubby and husband Zach, Anthony Steimel, Allen Steimel, Emily Steimel, Mauri Steimel, Miranda Kimble, Boone Steimel and Katherine Steimel; and 4 great grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Keith, a great granddaughter, Brynleigh Steimel, a brother, George Hewes and a sister, Carol Jochem. 

Vigil and rosary will be 7:00 pm Sunday, April 2, 2017 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Monday at the church with Fr. Peter Tran presiding. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.
