State Supreme Court Decision Opens Door For Construction of Coal Fired Plant

Holcomb, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Kansas Supreme Court late Friday cleared a big hurdle rejecting the Sierra Club’s effort to tie emissions from a coal fired power plant planned for Holcomb to climate change.

The high court unanimously sided with a 2014 decision from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to approve the 895 megawatt plant at a cost of a little more than 2 billion dollars.  Its unclear now how quickly Sunflower Electric would proceed with construction, but the thought is this could be a major boost to the local economy once the plant is completed.
