El Dorado, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The West team trailed 21-14 with 1:37 left in the third quarter when Dylan Foos from Dighton made a momentum swinging play. Foos caught a seven yard TD pass from Zach Esau to pull the West within one.
The West would go on to win in an unconventional way. Zach Helbing stopped the East for a safety with 1:00 to play and put the West ahead for good 22-21. It’s the first win for the West in four years.
Foos led the SW Kansas participants in contributions with six catches for 59 yards and that crucial touchdown. Holcomb’s Dillon Williams helped anchor the West defense with six tackles and a sack. Garden City’s Peyton Hill had three carries for four yards. Dodge City’s Thomas Sanchez also played for the West squad.
This year was the 44th edition of the Kansas Shrine Bowl.
