Scott City tennis fifth at Garden City, cross country sees girls first, boys second at Stanton County

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The fall sports season continues to move fast, and Saturday saw the girls tennis team compete in their seventh meet of the season, while the cross country team reached the midway point of the season. In Garden City, the Lady Beaver tennis team finished fifth in a competitive meet, while the cross country team saw the girls win their third meet of the year, and the boys finish fourth, as they are now halfway through the regular season.

The Scott City tennis team competed without a No. 1 Singles player, but the efforts of the remaining of the players kept them in the top five. Finishing third at No. 1 Doubles was the duo of Brenda Aguirre/Emily Glenn, while finishing fourth were the No. 2 Doubles team of Dallie Metheny/Lanae Haupt, and Cynthia Gonzalez was fourth at No. 2 Singles. The varsity will have their final tuneup for regional play on Thursday at Ellsworth/

As for the cross country team, the girls team finished on top for the third time in four meets this year. The Lady Beavers finished with 28 points, 34 better than runner-up Cimarron. Individually, Makaela Stevens took second with a time of 21:38.17, while Dulce Ayala was fifth (22:18.97), followed by Megan Vance in seventh (22:26.70), Trella Davis 10th (22:58.03), Olivia Prieto in 11th (23:04.55), Kodi Rogers 27th (24:55.89) and Aly Tarango finished in 39th (26:12.97). On the boys side, the team finished in second place with 56 points, 21 points behind first place Hugoton. Jack Thomas won his fourth race of the year, coming in with a time of 16:31.84. Conner LeBeau finished in fourth place with a time of 17:43.27, followed by Austin Rios in 11th (19:01.41), Roberto Apodaca in 21st (19:46.03), Theron Tucker in 23rd (19:57.66), Angel Rodriguez in 40th (20:46.80) and Eric Frances finished in 50th place (21:13.70). Up next for the cross country team is the Ness City Invitational on Thursday.
