Broncbusters top Air Force Prep

Colorado Springs, CO(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College football team beat Air Force Prep Friday afternoon 29-20 at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The broncbusters led 21-0 late in the second half before a blocked punt set up the Huskies at the Garden City 3 yard line, where they would scored three plays later to make it 21-7 at halftime.

GCCC would increase the lead to 27-7 in the third quarter when Terry Wilson hit Charles West for a nine yard touchdown pass. From there the Broncbusters started to bring in some of the reserves.

Air Force Prep(0-5) was able to make it interesting late when their back-up quarterback Nolan McDonald hit Brandon Lewis for two long touchdown passes from 34 and 57 yards. The second Lewis touchdown made it 27-20 with 1:05 to play. The Broncbusters would block the extra point and Jon Alexander would return it for two points to put the game away 29-20.

The Broncbusters(6-3, 4-2) rushed for 239 yards and it was a collective effort. Charles West was the leading rusher with 70 yards on 14 carries, Taylor Thomas had 8 carries for 65 yards, Alaric Williams 11 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown and Terry Wilson ran 10 times for 41 yards. Wilson was also sharp through the air, 13-24 passing for 177 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Daniel Davis was the leading receiver with 3 receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown and Nigel Kilby had five catches for 54 yards.

The GCC defense held the Huskies to 254 yards of offense, forced two turnovers and blocked a punt, field goal and extra point.

GCCC is back in action on Saturday Nov. 4 at Iowa Central at 11 a.m.
