Garden City School Board approves tech plan, gets truancy update

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Monday night the Garden City school board approved the K-8 tech plan that will put Ipads in every classroom by 2020. The plan passed on a 4-2 vote.

The four year plan will introduce the Ipads into classrooms two grades per year. The new tech plan is expected to cost $460,000 per year.

The board also received an update from truancy officer Erica Pargas. A student is considered truant if they do not go to school for three straight days, have five unexcused or unverified days in a semester or seven unexcused days in the school year.

Pargas took over the truancy program last year and made an instant impact. In 2015-16 there were over 200 truancy affidavits files and in Vargas first year 2016-17 the number dropped below 50.
