Garden City State of the City Address and Financial Profile for 2017

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) At the Garden City Chamber Breakfast Wednesday morning Mayor Melvin Dale gave the state of the city address. City Manager Matt Allen on the mayor’s speech.

The chamber also gave out the 2017 financial profile for the city. Allen on the most significant stats in that report.

According to the report  Garden City is the third lowest of full-service cities in the state in mill levies at just over 30 for 2017. The total mills levied for the community were also the third lowest at around 150.

Financials at the end of 2016 showed Garden City’s assets exceeded it’s liabilities by over $107 million. The city’s long-term debt decreased by $2.725 million.

The city’s 2018 total budget is $114,699,708. The 2018 General Fund Revenue is $24 million with 46.83% coming from sales tax, 16.28% from property tax, 9.12% from service charges, 2.81% from franchise tax and 24.96% from other. The 2018 General Fund Departments breakdown is 39.6% for police/municipal court, 22.7% other, 15.7% public works, 13.9% fire and 8.1% zoo.
