Scott City Girls Tennis season ends at Regionals

Phillipsburg, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver tennis team knew they would have to get a couple of breaks to get a state qualifier to state in a competitive Class 3-2-1A Regional meet at Phillipsburg. Unfortunately for Scott City, they were unable to get anyone through the first day.

In singles play, Yami Sanchez won her first match of the day over Kyndal Hawks of Ellsworth 9-5, but fell to the fourth place finisher in the regional in Morgan Leiker of Victoria 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 16. Cynthia Gonzalez lost her lone match to Adrian Dietz of Trego Community 6-4, 4-6, and lost the tiebreaker 10-2. Dietz was an eight seed and ended up finishing fifth to qualify for state.

In doubles play, the doubles team of Brenda Aguirre/Emily Glenn lost in the round of 16 to Russell’s Skyler Steinle/Morgan Orlando 6-3, 4-6 and the tiebreaker 10-8. The doubles team of Lynae Haupt/Dallie Metheny fell to the doubles team of Chantel Whisman/Kiara Sweat from Victoria 9-2 in the first round. Whisman & Sweat were seeded 18th and ended up qualifying for state, placing sixth.

Victoria won the regional with 20 points, Osborne finished in second with 11 and Phillipsburg placed third as a team with 10 points.
